Public Information Statement  Statement as of 9:15 PM MST on July 4, 2008

... Summer severe weather rumbles across northern Arizona for the
Fourth of July...

An unstable and moist airmass across northern Arizona allowed for
showers and thunderstorms to develop earlier today. Convective
activity began around noon across the high terrain and worked its
way off the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains into the lower
elevations of northern Gila and Yavapai counties. The first Severe
Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 1210 PM MST for areas just north
of Bellemont. The rest of the severe thunderstorm warnings were
issued for locations across Yavapai and northern Gila counties. In
all... 10 warnings were issued this afternoon... mainly for strong
winds and penny-sized hail.

The only storm report the National Weather Service received was from
the Yavapai County sheriff's office. At 345 PM MST... people in and
around the town of Mayer estimated nickel-sized hail fell across the
town and strong winds knocked down a few power lines.

At this time... two flood advisory products are still active for
portions of extreme southwest Yavapai County. Doppler radar
estimated precipitation amounts of 2 to 3 inches fell across the
advisory area with an additional one-half inch of rainfall possible.
The advisories will expire later this evening.
