NWS Forecaster Discussion
143 fxus63 kmpx 050333 aab afdmpx Area forecast discussion...updated National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen Minnesota 1035 PM CDT Friday Jul 4 2008 Updated for aviations discussion below... Discussion... in the near term...both the surface and upper high pressure ridge that had dominated the weather the past few days over the Midwest ..will finally will begin to loosen its grip over the weekend. In the meantime...look for the string of dry weather to continue another day over the upper Midwest. Short term models have been consistent in flatten longwave upper ridge over central Continental U.S.. this will allow a couple of shortwave troughs to move over the upper Midwest late Saturday night/Sunday and again on Monday. The weather will remain dry through Saturday evening across much of the forecast area. There still remains a chance of rain showers over the entire forecast area by miday Sunday. Airmass is forecast to moisten in the boundary layer as mean relative humidity fields increase to 70 percent by 48 hours. Medium and long range forecasts...Monday through Friday...weather pattern will remain unsettled as a series of weak short wave troughs and disturbances trek over the upper Midwest during the period. Zonal upper air flow will continue into the end of the work week with Pacific modify airmass over the forecast area. Dry soil conditions in place across the southern half of Minnesota...maximum temperatures should not have a hard time reaching the middle to upper 80s. && Aviation.../06z taf issuance/ VFR conds will prevail during forecast period. Will continue some middle clouds mention with warm air advection pattern over much of Minnesota...temperature broken at krwf/kaxn/kstc and kmsp. 00z NAM continues to spread this east during Sat morning into wc WI. Will continue this trend as well. Southerly wind to increase as well during the morning as low pressure approaches from the west. Spds will be from 10 to 15 kts...with gusts 20 to 25 kts developing most areas by 18z. Will remove gusts at 01z sun and mention more middle clouds increasing at kaxn as front move closer to western Minnesota. Will keep area dry through 06z sun however. && Mpx watches/warnings/advisories... Minnesota...none. WI...none. && $$ Jvm/dwe
