Area forecast discussion...updated
National Weather Service Spokane Washington
1059 am PDT Wednesday Aug 20 2008

Synopsis...
a deep and unusually strong upper level trough will move over the
inland northwest today...bringing wet weather and cooler than
normal conditions to the area through Thursday.

&&

Discussion...
update this morning to increase probability of precipitation and cloud cover over the
eastern basin and southeast zones as a band of heavier showers
moves east through the area. Maximum temperatures were also adjusted
down a few degrees mainly over the eastern half of the forecast
area to account for more persistent cloud cover. Satellite imagery
shows some breaks in the clouds over the western basin late this
morning. If the sun breaks through over the higher terrain this
afternoon there is the potential for thunderstorms so a slight
chance of thunder remains in the forecast through this evening over
the eastern mountains. /Kelch

&&

Aviation...
a broad area of showers will continue to move east across extreme
eastern Washington and northern Idaho this afternoon...producing
occasional MVFR ceilings from kpuw north to Spokane until around
21z...as well as create widespread mountain obscurations north and east
of the Columbia Basin. Following a break in the precipitation early this
afternoon...scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms and rain will develop this
afternoon then end by this evening. The best chance of thunderstorms and rain will
stretch from klws north to kpuw and the Spokane area. Yet another shot
of showers is expected overnight...especially across north Idaho as a
second wave passes through.
