Area forecast discussion...corrected
National Weather Service Spokane Washington
455 PM PDT Friday Jul 4 2008

Synopsis...isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue
through the evening hours. After that...near normal temperatures
and a dry forecast through the rest of the Holiday weekend.

&&

Discussion...
corrected typo in aviation discussion.

Tonight...elevated showers associated with a cold front passage
will continue their northeastward progression through the late
afternoon and early evening hours. Ceilings remain very
high...around 9-10k feet. Omak earlier today received 0.05 of
precipitation...otherwise all other locations have received a trace or
hundredth. This light rain will move across eastern Washington and north
Idaho through the late afternoon and then shift into Idaho this
evening. The best chance for thunderstorms this evening will be
across the Idaho Panhandle...but even confidence in that is waning.
Some showers have developed behind the front across central
Washington and have moved up into the basin. Do not expect much out
of these showers...some sprinkles/light rain with trace amounts on
the ground. There were a few lightning strikes earlier in the Yakima
area...but nothing so far in our area. Still...will add isolated
thunder in the forecast through 3z. Overall idea for this evening
will be decreasing chance of showers/thunderstorms and skies
clearing.

Saturday through Sunday night...upper level low that is currently
near 142w/49n will weaken and near the British Columbia coast
Saturday. All of the energy will remain to the north as it moves
inland Sat night. The inland northwest will remain in westerly
flow through the weekend with average temperatures for this time
of the year. /Nisbet

Monday through Thursday...dry and very warm conditions prevail
during the extended period. Middle level heights start to rise on
Monday as a Pacific Ridge migrates east. Temperatures will be on an
upward trend through midweek as the ridge axis moves over the inland
northwest. 850mb temperatures start the week in the upper teens then
warm a couple of degrees each day peaking on Wednesday when readings
reach around 23c. This will translate to most valley locations in
the 90s. By Thursday an upper level low starts to drop down out of
the Gulf of Alaska flattening the ridge a bit. This will mean
slightly cooler temperatures for the end of the workweek but
readings will remain above seasonal normals. Guidance disagrees in
timing the breakdown of the ridge with the European model (ecmwf) bringing the trough
through the region Thursday night and the GFS a bit slower. At this
point the forecast remains dry. /Kelch
&&

Aviation...
a cold front will continue to move east through extreme eastern
Washington and north Idaho this evening. Scattered showers will
impact the kgeg-kcoe terminals this evening with isolated showers in
the klws area. The best instability and frontal forcing for thunder
will be east of the main terminals...over the eastern fringes of the
Idaho Panhandle into western/central Montana. Showers will diminish
and move east of the forecast area after 06z. West-northwest winds will gust to
25 kts in the keat area then diminish after sunrise. /Ek
