NWS Forecaster Discussion
456 fxca62 tjsj 091926 afdsju Area forecast discussion National Weather Service San Juan PR 326 PM AST Friday Jan 9 2009 Synopsis...surface high pressure will dominate the central Atlantic through the weekend. A light to moderate trade wind flow will prevail through tonight before a second area of high pressure moves off the southeast coast of the U.S. And passes north of the local area. && Discussion...isolated to scattered showers developed along the Cordillera Central and spread north west this afternoon. Radar estimated rainfall accumulations of less than an inch. Streamers also developed over the USVI. Another area of low level moisture now located over the Anegada Passage...will continue to move west and once again affect the USVI and eastern portions of Puerto Rico through Saturday morning. && Aviation...the band of moisture that has been affecting mainly Puerto Rico this afternoon...will continue moving slowly west northwest across the remainder of the local area tonight and then away from the local region Saturday. Afternoon showers across mainly Puerto Rico and the adjacent coastal waters should generally diminish and end through 22z. Thus...expect prevailing VFR conditions to continue across the local islands and at all local taf sites tonight...but brief MVFR conditions and local mountain obscurations are still possible in passing rain showers. && Marine...expect seas of 4 to 6 feet today increasing and becoming more choppy on Saturday to 6 to 8 feet as winds increase and a relatively small northerly swell 1.2m (4 feet) moves through the Atlantic coastal. Models are suggesting a significant increase on winds across the local area beginning early next week generating choppy seas across all local waters. && Preliminary point temps/pops... sju 73 83 72 83 / 30 30 40 40 stt 75 83 73 83 / 20 20 40 40 && Sju watches/warnings/advisories...
