Area forecast discussion for western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming
National Weather Service Rapid City South Dakota
811 PM MDT Wednesday Oct 15 2008

Discussion...latest satellite imagery and regional radar mosaic
indicate little moisture is associated with the upper trough
currently crossing Montana. Therefore have removed the precipitation that
was previously mentioned over northestern Wyoming and northwestern South Dakota. Have also
adjusted sky cover and winds per latest trends.

&&

Aviation...VFR conditions expected overnight with some middle/high clouds.

&&

Previous discussion... /issued 222 PM MDT Wednesday Oct 15 2008/

Discussion...current surface analysis shows weak high pressure
over the County Warning Area. Temperatures this afternoon have struggled to warm
out of the 40s given the cloud cover over southwest South Dakota
and northeast Wyoming. Shortwave currently over Idaho will
continue progressing eastward this afternoon into this evening and
move across the County Warning Area overnight. A few sprinkles or flurries can be
expected across portions of northeast Wyoming and far northwest
South Dakota. A secondary wave and surface trough will push across
the County Warning Area during the day on Thursday bringing a slight chance of
showers to portions of western South Dakota and northeast Wyoming.
High pressure will build over the central rockies on Friday. A
surface trough will set up across western South Dakota on Friday
afternoon as high pressure aloft builds over the area.
Temperatures will warm into the the 60s to lower 70s across the
County Warning Area on Friday. The exception will be the higher elevations of the
Black Hills where high temperatures will be in the 50s.

Extended...upper ridge builds across northern plains for the
weekend. 850-700mb temperatures support highs into the 70s on
Saturday. Weak cold front moves through Saturday night/Sunday.
Models continue to show upper trough crossing the northern plains
early next week bringing a chance for precipitation.
