197 fxus61 kpbz 061633 afdpbz Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 1230 PM EDT Sat Sep 6 2008 Synopsis... a weakening cold front will bring scattered showers to southeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania today while showers from the remains of Hanna clip the higher elevations southeast and east of Pittsburgh. As low pressure from Hanna moves quickly northeast tonight showers will end. Temperatures will be seasonal with the next chance for rain Monday night. && Near term /through Sunday/... cold front washing out across northern forecast area with band of showers gradually diminishing as convergence weakens along front. Area of showers well north of Hanna edging into ridges this morning and will continue through this afternoon as remnant low from Hanna quickly moves northeast along eastern Seaboard. Heaviest rains will stay well east of region. As Hanna low moves northeast tonight deeper moisture is swept well east with it and showers will end. Weak shortwave will make a run at eastern Great Lakes Sunday with moisture and upper support well north of Pennsylvania and only a slight chance of showers north of Interstate 80 in grids. Temperatures trending back to normal. && Short term /Sunday night through Monday night/... weak high pressure Sunday night and Monday with near normal temperatures. Cold front approaches later Monday night with a chance of showers especially in Ohio counties. Near normal temperatures to continue. && Long term /Tuesday through Friday/... frontal system crossing the area Tuesday with chance probability of precipitation spreading across the area from west to east. High pressure will bring dry conditions for midweek...with the next system affecting the area for late week. Little change to extended from previous forecast. && Aviation /16z Saturday through Wednesday/... showers are diminishing as Hanna pushes to the northeast...and a cold front weakens across the upper Ohio Valley. MVFR/IFR conditions are persisting southwest PA...with conditions beginning to slowly improve across eastern Ohio behind the cold front. Conditions will improve by later this afternoon for most areas as the cold front pushes to the east. Areas of IFR conditions in fog are expected again overnight/early Sunday morning. Weak high pressure should provide mainly VFR weather for Sunday and Monday. The next cold front will cross the area Monday night and Tuesday bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms and the potential for restrictions.
