Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Pendleton or
220 am PDT sun Jul 20 2008

Short term...today through Monday night...high pressure will
influence the regions weather today with dry conditions and very
warm temperatures. Afternoon highs should climb into the 90s across the
portions of the basin today and Monday. Low pressure off the cali
coast may creep far enough north and push some middle level moisture
into the southern portions of the area Monday. Combining this with
daytime heating may produce an isolated afternoon/evening thunderstorms and rain over central
Oregon and extending northeast into the area mountains of the S
blues/wallowas.

Long term...Tuesday through Sunday...the upper trough of low
pressure will continue to move across the region with increasing
moisture and instability Tuesday and Tuesday night. There will be
just enough moisture and instability to warrant isolated
thunderstorm development again Tuesday afternoon and evening in the
eastern mountains. The upper trough will then move east of the area
by Wednesday and be replaced with a dry and stable westerly flow
again. There are some model differences from Wednesday Onward...but
the overall pattern will keep dry and very warm conditions over the
Pacific northwest for the remainder of the week into the weekend. 88

&&

Aviation...VFR conditions with generally light winds will prevail
through tonight. Wind speeds may increase to 10 to 20 kts this
afternoon at kdls...however winds will remain between 5 and 15 kts
elsewhere today and tonight. 88
