NWS Forecaster Discussion
034 fxus66 kpdt 060957 afdpdt Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Pendleton or 357 am PDT sun Jul 6 2008 Short term...today through Monday night...a weak weather disturbance is currently exiting the region. Middle to high level clouds are decreasing behind the system...with mostly clear skies expected over the entire region by this afternoon. A ridge of high pressure will begin to build today off the Pacific northwest coast. This will keep the area under a dry northwest flow through Monday night. Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer today than yesterday. Heights will rise as the ridge builds further on Monday...with high temperatures rising to around 90 degrees in the lower elevations and into the 80s in the mountains. Dmh Long term...Tuesday through Saturday...a flat upper level ridge of high pressure will persist from Tuesday through Wednesday night. Meanwhile...an upper level trough will enter British Columbia on Wednesday and sag southward Wednesday night with the trough invading the Pacific northwest on Thursday thus producing a marine push east of the Cascades that will increase surface pressure gradients resulting in breezy winds in the Kittitas Valley and the eastern Columbia River gorge. On Friday and Saturday daytime high temperatures will back off and be somewhat cooler thanks to a maritime airmass spilling east of the Cascades on Thursday.
