Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Norman OK
426 am CDT sun Jul 20 2008

Discussion...mid/high clouds across north central OK this morning
in vicinity of upper shear axis. Some light elevated echoes
showing up on area radars but doesn't appear that much more than a
few sprinkles is reaching the ground. With upper ridge building
over the area will leave forecast dry for today although an
isolated shower/thunderstorm can not be ruled out for later today in
northern OK in the vicinity of the weakening shear axis. Upper
ridge will remain the dominant weather feature through the
remainder of the extended period. A weak cold front will approach northestern
OK late Tuesday/Wednesday as a short wave drops southeastward through the upper
Midwest. Think that thunderstorms associated with this will generally remain
northeast of the forecast area as upper ridge persists over OK. Also tropical
wave over the western Caribbean prognosticated to move toward far south
Texas late in the period. It appears any effects from this system will
remain south of the forecast area. Thus dry and very warm weather expected to
prevail through the period.
