Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA
253 PM EDT Friday Jul 18 2008

Synopsis...
warm and humid conditions will continue through the weekend. An
approaching cold front will bring scattered thunderstorms
beginning Sunday.

&&

Near term /through Saturday/...
isolated thunderstorms still possible over the West
Virginia/western Maryland mountains through early this evening and again
late Saturday where covergence over the ridges can provide enough lift
to overcome the capping inversion. Otherwise above normal temperatures
and humid conditions will continue.

&&

Short term /Saturday night through Monday/...
system approaching our region from the west will bring a greater
chance of thunderstorms for Sunday and Monday. More abundant cloud
cover should hold maximum temperatures in the lower and middle 80s.

&&

Long term /Monday night through Friday/...
a broad upper trough of low pressure will allow disturbances to move
through the flow during this period. Later model runs will help to
pinpoint which days have the best chances for storms...currently
favoring low chance for each day. Anticipating near seasonal
temperatures.

&&

Aviation /18z Friday through Wednesday/...
high pressure will remain dominant into Sunday...with a low pressure
system moving in from the central Great Lakes region Sunday
afternoon into Monday. Another low will affect the region for
Tuesday night into Wednesday. This afternoons diurnally generated
cumulus will dissipate after sunset...with patchy valley fog expected
overnight. Visible in fog could be reduced to IFR at times toward
morning. Saturday will be similar to today...with building
afternoon cumulus...then clouds dissipate at night with valley fog
overnight. IFR conditions in showers and storms will be possible
Monday and Wednesday.
