NWS Forecaster Discussion
715 fxus65 kcys 182108 afdcys Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Cheyenne Wyoming 305 PM MDT Friday Jul 18 2008 Short term...tonight through Sunday...stronger convection this afternoon has been north and south of County Warning Area with better upper dynamics. Per laps data and Storm Prediction Center day1 outlook though...potential still exists for some strong storms along and east of a line from kdgw to Kimball Nebraska into middle evening. Much of that area was hindered a bit by cool outflow air and subsidence behind early morning convection. Best coverage of thunderstorms should be over the northern County Warning Area...and another mesoscale convective system is hinted at by the models over northestern Wyoming/western South Dakota later tonight. On Saturday...rising upper heights and westerly flow aloft will prevail. Have kept forecast dry on Saturday as air mass will be drier/less unstable. Upper heights continue to rise Sunday with an upper high building over Colorado. Some moisture and instability will be present over and near the mountains Sunday afternoon...so a low pop there looks good. Kept the rest of County Warning Area dry into Sunday afternoon. Long term...Sunday night through Friday... an upper ridge will be located over or just south of the forecast area...and will be the primary influence on the weather Monday through Friday. Middle and upper level monsoonal moisture will drift northward and northeastward on the back side of the upper ridge...but the best moisture will remain largely to our south. Enough moisture will make it over the forecast area to warrant a chance of mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms almost daily. Temperatures will be above average Monday through Friday. && Aviation...overall...VFR conditions expected tonight through Saturday night. Some thunderstorms this evening may briefly reduce ceilings and visibilities into MVFR category...especially at kdgw/Lusk and kcdr. These same locations may also have a low cloud deck and some fog late tonight and early Saturday morning. && Fire weather...Saturday will bring hot temperatures and low humidities with near red flag conditions developing over Albany and Carbon counties. Winds will mainly stay in the range of 15g25 miles per hour though so held off on a watch for now. && Cys watches/warnings/advisories... Wyoming...none. NE...none. && $$ Jlh/Jr
