Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Springfield MO
238 PM CDT Friday Jul 18 2008

Discussion...

A minor shortwave trough currently passing over northern Missouri
triggered thunderstorm activity west of the area this morning
that has diminished to weak shower activity across eastern Kansas
and western Missouri. This activity will die down overnight as
the trough passes to the east and diurnal heating ends.

Short term (saturday through monday)...

A more significant shortwave trough will be moving onshore over
the next few days that will build heights ahead of it over the
central Continental U.S....shifting the jet north of the area. This will
keep disturbances north of the County Warning Area resulting in overall dry
weather through Tuesday evening. Building ridging will also bring
warmer temperatures during this period.

Long term (tuesday through friday)...

The incoming trough is expected to support a frontal boundary
that will begin pushing into northern Missouri by Tuesday evening
bringing changes for precipitation over the County Warning Area during the day
Wednesday. Went with only slight probability of precipitation as model consistency with
this system has been poor over the last few days. Temperatures
will likely trend lower beyond Wednesday as the front progresses
south of the area.

Aviation...

For the 18z taf package...for the most part VFR conditions will be
the rule for the next 24 hours and beyond. With high pressure
remaining over the region for several days now...haze has been
occurring with more frequency and this should continue. Occasional
bouts of MVFR visible can be expected during the overnight hours...
improving slowly after sunrise each day. Otherwise...the main
storm track should remain just to the northwest of the area.
Cannot rule out a stray rain showers affecting the jln Aerodrome...but
this should be the exception rather than the rule.
