Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles la
856 PM CDT sun Sep 7 2008

Update...
latest upper air sounding shows moisture value has increased as
return flow has started. Still most of this moisture is shallow
and below 5k feet. Radar has been showing a few showers over the
coastal waters and the lower Atchafalaya basin...although activity
has been weakening. Will make a slight adjustment to grids and
forecast to keep a slight chance of showers in over the coastal
waters for some nocturnal activity late tonight with the increase
in moisture.

Previous discussion... /issued 359 PM CDT sun Sep 7 2008/

Discussion...
another fall day allowed temperatures climb into the middle 80s at
Lake Charles. Winds have begun to swing around to the southeast.
Currently winds are east but this will change by tonight. This
will allow Gulf moisture to return which means afternoon showers
and isolated thunderstorms for Monday through Wednesday and a bit
warmer tomorrow.

Ike is moving towards Cuba and looks to move along The Spine of
the island nation through at least Tuesday before finally making
it's way into the Gulf. Latest track has Ike continuing on a northwest
course and moving towards the Texas/Louisiana coast. It this
happens the region will begin to see winds increase on Thursday
into Friday with rains moving into the region on Friday into
Saturday. But this is still very dependent on the track of the
storm and the organization.

Aviation...
scattered broken ceiling varies from 040 to around 050 with a bit less
cloud cover over Texas.
