NWS Forecaster Discussion
839 fxus63 klmk 240701 cca afdlmk Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Louisville Kentucky 300 am EDT Thursday Jul 24 2008 Short term (today and tonight)... High pressure to bring a quiet today and tonight to southern Indiana and central Kentucky with little cloud cover until late tonight when some middle level moisture begins to approach the area from the northwest. Temperatures today will be in the lower to middle 80s...a couple degrees warmer than yesterday...though low relative humidity values this afternoon will make for another pleasant day across the region. Long term (friday through wednesday)... Upper level ridge begins to break down on Friday as shortwave associated with upper low pressure system across southern Canada approaches the area. Models generally agree on keeping the bulk of heavier precipitation to the west of the forecast area for most of Friday with chances increasing late Friday night. However...will leave chance to slight chance probability of precipitation for Friday as middle level moisture begins to return to the area ahead of low level moisture push. Also...with upper low strengthening and deepening into Saturday atmosphere will become increasingly unstable as middle and upper level temperatures and heights begin to fall. Weak cold front will move through the area on Saturday afternoon and evening and will be a focusing mechanism for continued thunderstorm activity. Do not expect as much of a cool down as the region experienced with this last cold front but relative humidities will be decreased making heat indices much more comfortable. Slight chances of precipitation are expected Monday...mainly east of Interstate 65 as upper low is slow to push northeast...however moisture will be limited so showers and thunderstorms should remain fairly isolated. Monday through Wednesday should be fairly dry with a ridge of high pressure building over the area bringing a return to hot and humid summertime conditions. && Aviation (06z tafs)... High pressure to bring mainly VFR conditions to the taf locations during the 06z Thursday-06z Friday time frame. Only exception to this may be some MVFR visibilities at klex and kbwg between 08z-13z in localized fog. && Lmk watches/warnings/advisories... Kentucky...none. In...none. && $$ Weather.Gov/Louisville Short term...maczko long term....ls aviation.....Maczko
