Short term...today through Sunday. 


Southwest flow aloft continues today with a very weak short wave 
moving through this afternoon on the NAM with weak instability 
perhaps again causing isolated thunderstorms across high 
elevations in the central mountains and upper snake Highlands. A 
stronger short wave moves through on Sunday and thunderstorms may 
be a bit more widespread across the high elevations and the grids 
indicate this. Expect seasonal temperatures or slightly above 
through the weekend with generally light winds.

Long term...Monday through Saturday. 
Weak upper ridging builds in Monday and expect dry conditions 
Monday through Thursday with some weak warming as well keeping 
temperatures above normal. Some convective precipitation may 
return late next week into the weekend as GFS indicates perhaps a 
weak trough moving in Friday and Saturday.

Aviation...upper level cloud shield migrating east toward the 
Wyoming border early this morning. Clearing skies/VFR conditions 
expected to abound under weak to moderate west flow aloft. Huston

Fire weather...weather pattern quickly transitioning away from the 
amplified Rocky Mountain ridge pattern toward zonal flow early in 
the forecast period. Thus general expectation is to see milder 
temperatures (near or slightly above climate norms) with greater 
exposure to wind events with each passing short-wave. First wave 
expected to traverse region Sunday...but depth of trough rather weak 
resulting in light to modest west winds. Next significant wave 
activity anticipated to work into the northwest states/western Canada 
Thursday/Friday with ensuing impacts reaching southern Idaho 
Friday/Saturday. Huston
