Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Tucson Arizona
255 am MST Sat Jul 5 2008

Synopsis...high pressure aloft will remain centered to the north of
Arizona into next week. The flow around this system along with
available moisture will generate the daily cycle of isolated to
scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

&&

Discussion...radar was still detecting an area of showers and a few
thunderstorms tracking northwest across parts of central Pima County
early this morning. Expect this activity to diminish in the next few
hours. Otherwise...a return in thunderstorms this afternoon can be
expected today as adequate moisture remains in place. GFS model
showed a low pressure trough moving through the western states this
weekend. Drier air was prognosticated to spread into central and northern
sections of the state with this trough...but southern Arizona could
remain rather moist. The upper dynamics associated with the tail end
of this low pressure trough could lead to an active thunderstorm day
today. Latest met MOS gave Tucson a 50 percent pop for this evening.
However...will not go that high for precipitation chances today as other
MOS prducts were much different. The GFS model had the high becoming
centered over Nevada by the middle of this coming week. This should
still be a decent pattern for daily thunderstorms.

&&

Fire weather...high pressure aloft will be centered near The Four
Corners through the upcoming weekend. Flow around the high will
result in a daily cycle of afternoon and evening thunderstorms...
along with seasonably hot daytime temperatures. Any thunderstorms
that do develop will have the potential to produce strong...
erratic...and gusty winds.

&&

Aviation...isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected this
afternoon and evening. Winds will generally be light and diurnally
driven except near thunderstorms through 06z sun...where winds will
be variable and gusty at times. Outflow winds with storms could have
gusts to near 45 kts. Aviation discussion not updated for taf
amendments.

&&

Twc watches/warnings/advisories...none.
